![]() ![]() ![]() They already delivered a 4k headset last year, so there's confirmation that they can deliver on the products they promise. Their kickstarter just ended recently, and they've been doing a killer job with their marketing. TL DR It's an 8k headset (one 4k 90hz panel per eye, upscaled from 2560x1440 per eye otherwise no GPU on earth could handle it and no cable could supply that kind of bandwidth) that's coming on the horizon. Personally, again, Viva la Vive, fuck Facebook, Rift can go die in a fire, refuse to water the walled garden, etc etc, but I don't let that bleed into my honest evaluation of the merits and shortcomings of each headset.Īll that being said, don't buy either one now. But for other people, a 3m x 3m playspace (the max achievable with 3 Rift sensors, note that it only comes with 2 so you have to buy a third one yourself for each set if you want roomscale capability) is plenty, or they don't have room for the full 5m x 5m of the Vive anyways so it's a moot point, or they don't mind that the tracking is technically slightly worse (in actuality the difference isn't super noticeable), or prioritize comfort or screen door effect over god rays - basically, what I'm trying to say is that which one is the better headset is entirely subjective. Now, personally, I would consider the Vive to be the better headset overall, because for me, personally, tracking fidelity and playspace area/roomscale capability is the #1 priority for an immersive VR experience. In terms of price/performance, there's almost no question - the Rift is a much better deal. Walled garden business practices + standard Facebook telemetry/scummy shady business practices, this is a dealbreaker for some people and not a big deal to others God rays (light bleeding in from outside the headset and refracting off the lens, can be very distracting) More of a hassle to set up/maintain with USB device shenanigans Price gap isn't as big once you factor in purchasing extra cameras Tracking solution technically isn't as good (though they perform very similarly/almost identical in real-world scenarios) If anything goes wrong, HTC customer support is actual dog shit + More open/consumer-friendly standard in SteamVR Pick, Assemble and Install: Video Guide. No intentionally harmful, misleading or joke advice. No excessive posting (more than one submission in 24 hours). No selling, trading or requests for valuation. No self-promotion, advertising, begging, or surveys. No submissions about memes, jokes, meta, or hypothetical / dream builds. No titles that are all-caps, clickbait, PSAs, pro-tips or contain emoji. No submissions about retailer or customer service experiences. No submissions about sales, deals or unauthorized giveaways. No submissions about hardware news, rumors, or reviews. Please keep in mind that we are here to help you build a computer, not to build it for you. *PLEASE READ A MORE DETAILED VERSION OF OUR RULES HERE.Submit Build Help/Ready post Submit Troubleshooting post Submit other post New Here?
